Authorities stated they were notified by a man who discovered a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Police say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Police then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the substance was probably human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.

A senior official stated the vandalism left him without words and required to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
